Research technician, analist
Research
Currently I’m not involved in any research project but take care of a number of background jobs like cell culture (including regular testing for mycoplasma), maintaining stocks of culture media (both for bacterial culture and cell culture), maintaining suply of general used chemicals and antibodies, ordering of primers/probes for use in (RT-)PCR and similar techniques and many other things. I have a clear interest in biosafety & biosecurity and function as local contact for matters related to biosafety such as obtaining and maintaining permits for GMO-work.
Curriculum Vitae
Obtained my degree as research technician in biochemistry (HLO) in 1986 in Delft and started working the same year in the group of prof. R.M. Bertina(AZL-Hematologie/Stollingsbiochemie). From then on I moved around in Leiden, switching between hospital and university as jobs usually came as two-year or three-year contracts and personal circumstances made in vital to have good access to public transport. My expertise focuses mostly on molecular genetics and ranges from bacterial genetics to hereditary genetics in humans. Unfortunately, in 2002 I was diagnosed with Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis and although disease progress is mild, it certainly has a big impact on my life and thus on my ability to work.
