About

Our research focuses on poverty-associated neglected infectious diseases, specifically tuberculosis and leprosy. We investigate disease mechanisms and identify specific biomarkers to improve early diagnosis and treatment, while reducing transmission in endemic regions.

We aim to translate fundamental immunological research into practical field applications by developing immunodiagnostic, multibiomarker rapid tests for use in diagnosis, transmission monitoring, prevention, and disease prediction.
To achieve our goals, we employ multiplex assays and advanced exploratory technologies to identify proteomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic biomarkers and use comprehensive immunophenotyping approaches, including flow cytometry, as well as mycobacterial growth inhibition assays.

Our work integrates scientific research with capacity building through training and education abroad, supported by long-term international collaborations with researchers and clinicians at field sites, including leading institutes in low- and middle-income countries. These efforts are embedded within the frameworks of Global Health, Population Health, and One Health.
