The Translational Parasitology team headed by Prof. Dr. M. Roestenberg, Dr. L. van Lieshout, Dr. B.M.D. Franke-Fayard, Dr. A.S.P. Yang and Dr. E.L. Houlder focuses on translating biological and epidemiological data into clinical relevance. Holding a wide array of techniques such as molecular engineering of malaria parasites, primary human hepatocyte culture, parasite detection techniques and controlled human infection models, the team tackles important global health questions such as the development of a highly effective single-dose malaria vaccine, the detection of helminth infections in low-resource settings and the increased understanding of natural and vaccine-induced immunity against helminth infections. Most importantly, the team is proud of their open, diverse and trans-disciplinary culture, fostering many meaningful collaborations within LUCID, LUMC and international.
