The group focusses in particular on research and applications in helminth infections, with an emphasis on schistosomiasis. Helminth glycans have multiple characteristics including immunomodulatory capacities, diagnostic potential and as part of novel vaccines. The combined expertise in glycobiology and helminth infection biology puts us in a unique position to contribute directly to combating worldwide important neglected tropical diseases such as schistosomiasis, as well as to explore glycobiology approaches to research in other communicable and non-communicable diseases.
